This past Wednesday June 26th officially marked the establishment of the Geneva International Legal Association (GILA), in the presence of its founding members, State Councillor Delphine Bachmann and Administrative Councillor of the City of Geneva Alfonso Gomez.

Dedicated to positioning the City as the global capital of law and legal services, GILA aims to promote the excellence and values of Swiss law as well as its critical importance in the global economy. This initiative was launched by the Geneva Bar Association (Ordre des avocats de Genève) under the leadership of its new President, Sandrine Giroud.

The Canton of Geneva, the City (Ville de Genève), the Fédération des Entreprises Romandes and the CCIG – Chambre de commerce, d’industrie et des services de Genève are among the key partners. As founding member, BOREL & BARBEY is proud to contribute to this endeavour which aspires to strengthen Geneva’s international prominence in the legal domain.

This event took place in a purposefully chosen venue, symbolic of Geneva’s global influence—the Alabama Room in Geneva’s Town Hall. Notably, this room hosted the arbitration proceedings between the United States and the United Kingdom following the American Civil War.
